Painting Umbrellas

We had craft week last week at our house. My two oldest kids are off to preschool next week, so I wanted to do something fun (and cheap) before they went back to school. Day one of craft week included umbrellas, paint, and squirt guns. My kids love umbrellas. I don't know what it is, but they just love them. It doesn't matter whether it's raining or not, they will walk around with their umbrellas. Weird, I know. They have pretty much destroyed their old umbrellas, so Emma and I went and picked up some new umbrellas. Emma somehow found the only pink umbrella which was hiding behind all the others. That's my Emma. I put their initials on the umbrellas, filled some squirt guns with paint and the kids went wild.

Noah thought it would be hysterical to paint his sister. Not gonna lie, I thought it was pretty funny too.
And this was the after math of the paint war.
Not a drop of rain in sight, but Emma was running around with her umbrella as soon as it was dry.

Emma Faith

My oldest daughter is crazy. She is a princess. She is a diva. She is a hot mess. The girl has made her father start to lose his hair and her mother start to gray. We are not looking forward to her going to high school, or worse, college! One thing I do know is that if we can guide her on the right path, she will change the world one day. Because passionate, determined people change the world. Underneath all her crazy diva-ness, is a compassionate, loving, beautiful child. A great big sister. A great little sister. A helper. I just hope we can get the crazy out of her. Well, maybe just a little bit of the crazy. Because life is no fun without a little crazy.

6 Amazing Years

There are a few parallels between the relationship between my grandparents and the relationship between Eddie and I. We both met on blind dates. They used to go “necking” at the same place we got married. I look a lot like my grandma did when she was my age. This year they celebrated 60 years of being married and tomorrow we will celebrate six. When I look back I am amazed at how much Eddie and I have done and been through in the past six years. We have served in two churches, we moved from one side of the country to the other, we bought a house, we gave birth to two beautiful children, we decided to adopt, we went to Africa to get our precious baby girl, I could go on and on. I knew that I was marrying an amazing man, but I really had no idea how amazing. If I had to choose one word to describe our relationship, it would be really hard. But the word that keeps coming to mind is supportive. I have spent the past six years supporting him in his ministry, and now that I am starting my own business, he is doing everything in his power to support me. Since being in school, starting a business, volunteering for a non-profit, and raising three kids is a bit of a handful, he cooks dinner every night. I didn’t even have to ask him! He just did it. He is my sounding board, partner and my biggest fan. I can’t imagine doing everything that I’m doing without him by my side. I love you babe and when I think in awe about my grandparents being together for 60 years, I think about our next 54 years. I am so excited that we have only just begun.

The Wells Family: Chesapeake Photographer

This weekend I had the pleasure of photographing an amazing family. I met Amy several years ago when our oldest kids were in a play group together. Shortly after that their daughter, Ella, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She is the most amazing little girl I have ever met. She has always got a smile on her face and joy spilling out of her. Their son, Parker, is such a cutie and loves his John Deer tractors (he would actually probably correct me for not calling it by the right name). Rick and Amy make such a great team and are great parents. Amy is getting ready to shave her head along with 45 other moms of kids with cancer. If you would like to support her in this click here.

Jessica and Erik's Wedding

Yesterday was my sister and brother-in-law's one month anniversary. They are now in Chicago starting their lives together. I didn't get too many pictures taken in between all my matron of honor duties, but here are some of the shots I managed to get.

Engagement Photography- Erik and Jessica

While I was in California, I had the pleasure of taking engagement pictures for my sister and her fiance. We had so much fun! Now, my sister and I always have fun when we are together. We are pretty much the definition of fun. But this was especially fun. Erik wanted to do their photos in a field and they turned out perfect. I have a few shots from their wedding so those pictures will be in my next post.

Erik wanted in on the action

My brother-in-law is so fierce!

Erik didn't think it was fair that only Jess got an engagement ring, so she made him one. So adorable.

I will end with this shot, because I am so happy that I have a sister who is willing to get a little dirty to get some good shots. Plus, her ring looks stunning no matter what. Wait till you see the wedding bands!
